Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency, urged clergy and churches to direct their concerns towards human rights activists in Ghana, rather than blaming the President for the delay in assenting to the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, unanimously passed by Parliament.
According to Hon. Baafi, it is the responsibility of churches and clergy to hold human rights activists accountable, as they are the ones who sued and restrained the President at the Supreme Court from assenting to the bill.
He emphasized that the President was prepared to assent to the bill, as evidenced by his encouragement to NPP MPs to expedite its passage.
Baafi urged churches to dismiss any claims suggesting that the President is intentionally delaying the assent of the bill, asserting that the legal challenge has been the primary hindrance.
His remarks were made while addressing congregants of the New Juaben Area of The Church of Pentecost.
Koforidua Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Mike Etrue, encouraged Christians to maintain their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, despite the challenges faced on earth.
Meanwhile, despite the ongoing Akwasidae festival, the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Boateng III, participated in the Easter Convention.
Nana Kwaku Boateng III used the occasion to caution against transformer theft, which he identified as a contributing factor to power outages in Koforidua and its environs.
