Eastern Regional Secretariate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held a training workshop for Constituency Secretaries and their deputies as part of capacity building preparation towards December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The program held in Suhum saw facilitators comprising political strategists, Project management experts among others.
Health experts also took over on the last day to provide health safety and screening.
Speaking to the media after the event, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Jamal Konneh underscored the importance of the exercise to the victory of John Dramani Mahama and the NDC at large.
His expectation is a paradigm shift in the political administration of the party in the region after the workshop.
Speaking on the upcoming limited registration of new voters, Jamal Konneh cautioned against serious attempts by the some undemocratic elements to disrupt the registration of first-time voters in the upcoming limited registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC), set to commence on Tuesday in strongholds of the NDC.
Jamal konneh emphasized that the NDC in the region is treating this exercise as a critical aspect of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He made these comments during a training workshop in Suhum for constituency secretaries and their deputies in the region.
He highlighted the importance of the limited registration exercise and stated that the NDC would not take it lightly, as it is a vital step toward the victory of John Mahama, flagbearer of the party.
He also mentioned the party’s vigilance in ensuring that every eligible young voter can register without fear or intimidation.
“This limited registration is a very important aspect of the elections, and we are not taking it lightly. Last year we did out best, this year we may go beyond what we did last year. We know the NPP are trying to employ a lot of thugs and we have picked those intelligence. We are preparing towards that and we hope that everything will go on smoothly but we are not going to take this exercise as a joke because this is the last exercise for toward the main election and if you don’t get the people to register you wouldn’t get them to come and vote during December 7 election” Jamal said
He also voiced concerns about the choice of areas deemed difficult to reach by the EC and suggested that these decisions should have been made in consultation with political parties.
“We have a little disagreement with them when it comes to areas they chose as difficult to reach areas. At least they should have decided that with us(the political parties) but that is the only issue we have with them. We believe that going forward they will help us reduce registration of minors, reduce anxiety and kind of information that they will hide machines elsewhere hoping this won’t be true because it will create a lot of tension in the region” Jamal cautioned.
He added “a word of caution to the NPP we have picked intelligence they have ploted to send thugs to Asuogyaman, Adeiso, Ayensuano, upper Manya krobo. We want them to know that they don’t have monopoly over thuggery”
Former Eastern Regional chairman, Bismark Tawiah Beateng urged the constituency Secretaries and their deputies to collaborate with their executives to ensure that all processes to the main elections are credible.
