The Eastern Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to hold a public demonstration in Koforidua on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to demand free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections.
In a notice submitted to the Ghana Police Service, the NDC called for adequate security arrangements for the demonstration, which is expected to start at 7:00 a.m. from Koforidua Prisons Park.
The protest march will pass through the Y&K Traffic Light and Agartha Market, before concluding at the Electoral Commission’s Regional Office.
The letter to the police signed by the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Jamal Konneh, stressed the importance of the march in ensuring credible elections. “This demonstration is our way of making it clear that we demand nothing short of free, fair, and transparent elections. It is the right of every citizen to participate in elections that are fair and peaceful,” he stated.
Konneh also urged the police to cooperate and provide the necessary security for the peaceful march. “We have notified the police as required by the Public Order Act, and we are counting on their usual cooperation to maintain order and protect the rights of demonstrators,” he added.
The National Chairman of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia on Monday September 9,2024 directed the party for the nationwide demonstrations to demand forensic audit of the voter register to ensure its credibility.
