Richard Etornam Nyarko, also known as Commander Bilibo, the Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced criticism against the Akufo Addo/Bawumia led government for neglecting the $48-million Jute Factory located in Adeiso in Upper West Akyem constituency in Eastern Region.
The factory, situated on a 12-acre land in is touted as the largest jute factory in Africa, with a monthly capacity of 600,000 sacks and the potential to employ over 3000 workers.
During a Unity Walk in the Upper West Akyem constituency, Nyarko pledged that under President John Mahama’s leadership, the NDC would ensure the completion and commissioning of the factory to reduce the country’s reliance on imported sacks, saving millions of dollars annually.
Nyarko also highlighted President Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy policy as a means to create more job opportunities and foster economic prosperity, particularly for the youth.
Addressing the deteriorating economic conditions, Nyarko attributed the increasing number of untimely deaths among the youth to economic decline, citing high unemployment rates, soaring healthcare costs, and difficulties affording balanced diets. He lamented the situation where some youth could only afford to eat once a day, dubbing it “zero-One-Zero.”
Expressing concerns over the economic strain on the youth, Nyarko emphasized the need for change.
Nyarko urged voters to support the NDC Parliamentary candidate, Emmanuel Drah, to help the party regain the seat from the NPP.
Shirley Naana Ampem, the Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer, called on women to actively participate in the upcoming elections to vote out NPP to break corruption, hardship, and skyrocketing food prices.
