Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary (POJOSS) mourns the loss of two students and a teacher between 2022 and 2023.
The school community lost two students, Master Kelvin Henry Abotsi and Master Oswald Gomenu, as well as Mr. Martin Osei Konadu, a Geography tutor, during this period.
The causes of their deaths were not disclosed.
These individuals were solemnly remembered during the 63rd Speech and Prize Giving Day celebration held at the school on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rev. Ing. Edmund Fianko, Director of Engineering at the National Communication Authority (NCA), who was guest Speaker at the event urged the students to be discipline, prayerful and learn hard.
He mphasized the transformative potential of yet to be rolled out mobile broadband services in enhancing internet speed and reliability in Ghana.
He encouraged students to leverage this advanced infrastructure to capitalize on opportunities in the digital economy.
Rev. Fianko, an old student of POJOSS also Minister of Methodist Church said this when speaking to the media as Guest Speaker during the 63rd speech and Prize Giving Day of Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary in Koforidua.
Management of POJOSS appealed for the swift completion of the Elsbernd House dormitory block project, which has been stalled for years.
This completion is crucial to alleviate severe congestion that currently forces some of over 2000 boarding students students to sleep outdoors and struggle to stay awake during classes.
The school also seeks the completion of an assembly block project that has similarly stalled.
Headmaster Rev. Fr. Benjamin Opoku Ohene highlighted the urgent need for 500 bunk beds, 200 tables and benches, 500 classroom desks, 45 teacher’s desks, and improved toilet facilities.
He praised the efforts of the Old Students Association and the Parents Association (PAs) for their ongoing support, which includes providing exam stationery, augmenting food supplies, and procuring medical supplies.
Despite these challenges, POJOSS saw commendable improvements in the 2023 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination pass rates.
School Prefect and SRC President Master Claude Appiah-Sasraku called for solutions to water shortages, power supply issues, bed bug infestations, and insufficient bunk beds.
Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, on behalf of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, promised to supply the necessary bunk beds, desks, and tables, and to asphalt the school grounds to enhance its appearance.
The event, organized and funded by POJOBA 98, also honored deserving students and staff.
