Seven people, including five males and two females, have tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident involving a VIP bus and a fuel tanker at Obretema near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, when the VIP bus, registered GR 7632-24, was traveling from Tamale to Accra.
Reports indicate that a fuel tanker with registration number UE 9644-22 veered off its lane and collided head-on with the bus.
The impact caused both vehicles to somersault, with the bus eventually landing in a ditch.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist in the evacuation.
The bodies of the seven victims, who died on the spot, were retrieved and taken to the Suhum Government Hospital for identification. The police, with the help of passersby, managed to control the traffic flow and organized towing trucks to remove the wrecked vehicles.
In addition, several injured passengers were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital by personnel from the National Ambulance Service.
The Suhum Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has since launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The police are calling on the public to assist in identifying any relatives of those involved in the crash.
