Tensions have risen in Kwahu Pepease, in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, after the Koforidua High Court (A), presided over by Justice Senyo Amedahe on Friday, March 14, 2025, ordered Nana Ayirepe II, Kwahu Pepeasehene, not to flaunt himself as the area’s traditional ruler.
Nana Ayirepe II was purportedly installed as chief without the consent of the town’s traditional kingmakers. The Court has ordered Nana Ayirepe II to remove himself by broadcasting it to the public via radio stations.
Speaking to the press, Nana Ayimadu, the incoming Chief of Kwahu-Hyewohoden, stated that the National House of Chief has advised Nana Ayirepe II not to parade as chief with immediate effect.
Nana Ayimadu explained that Koforidua High Court has ordered Nana Ayirepe II to return to the court on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, after his declaration of destoolment for further proceedings with video evidence on pen drive.
He disclosed that the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs (NHC) declared the enstoolment of Nana Ayirepe II as null and void. Nana Ayimadu stated categorically that Nana Ayirepe II is not heir to the Pepease throne.
Kwahu Pepease Queenmother, Nana Oforiwah Pokua II, who is also the Kyidomhemaa of the Kwahu Traditional Area, has followed due process to installed Nana Ampadu Okyere III as the Chief for Kwahu Pepease as prescribed by Akan custom and tradition.
