A 25-year-old motorcycle rider at Kwae in the Kwaebibirim Municipal, Kwame Agyei, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing, Contrary to Section 149 of the Criminal offenses Act 1960, amended with Act 646 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty on the charge but he was convicted base on facts presented to the court Presided Over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams.
Prosecution, Detective Chief Inspector Isaac Owusu Achaw said the complainant is a security supervisor with the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company Limited (GOPDC) Kwae Estate and the accused, Kwame Agyei popularly known as 2PM is Motorcycle Rider and resides at Kwae.
The prosecutor said on 25/04/2023 at about 8:00am, some irate youth of Kwae including the accused went on rampage because the company was digging trenches around the boundaries of their plantation to prevent rampant stealing of their palm fruits.
On that same day (25/04/2 023) at about 9:30am some workers of the company led by Bismark Ofori were assigned by the company to transport 117 bags of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizers and nine wheel barrows in a Kia truck driven by one Rahim Karim into the plantation for application.
On reaching a section of the road, in the farm of one Abrantie, the truck got stacked in a mud and Whilst they were making efforts to push the vehicle, eight persons including Solomon Appenteng @ solo and Gideon Appiah Kwakye @ Kekekwa both now convicts, the accused and five others now at large mobilized themselves to the scene armed with offensive weapons including cutlasses, axes and chains on board
a tricycle.
The accused and his accomplices upon their arrival forcibly seized Bismarck Ofori’s mobile phones and placed a chain around his neck and subjected him and the driver to threats and intimidations and upon that they succeeded to steal twenty (20) bags of the fertilizers value Gh¢ 8,000.00 and four (4) wheel barrows value at Gh¢2,448.00 and bolted with it. The matter was reported to police for investigations.
After the incident all the culprits vacated from the town. On 25/07/2023 and 08/08/2023 convicts Solomon Appenteng and Gideon Appiah Kwakye @ Kekekwa were arrested at their hide out and on interrogation both convicts Solomon Appenteng and Gideon Kwakye Appiah mentioned the accused and five others as
accomplices.
On 23/08/2023 the accused was arrested at his hideout at Adwafo
and handed over to police for investigations. After closed of investigation the accused was charged with the offence stated on the charge sheet, to appear before the Honourable court for trial.
