Two men, Ayensu Frederick and Simon Teye have been sentenced to ten years imprisonment in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court Presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams for robbery.
Ayensu Frederick, a 25 year old motorcycle rider and Simon Teye,a 32 year musician pleaded guilty for conspiracy to commit crime to wit: Attempted Robbery, contrary to section 23 of Act 29/60 and section 18(1) of Act 29/60 and they are currently in prison for 15 years each over similar case, all sentences to run concurrently.
Their accomplices, Matthew Odei and one only known as George are at large.
Presenting the fact of the case to the Court, Inspector Samuel Owusu said Complainant in this case is a motor rider residing at Yaw Tano near Asamankese and Ayensu Frederick who claimed to be a tricycle rider is a resident at Akyem Adubiase near Kade.
He said Simon Teye who also claimed to be a musician resides at Ashiaman with the two at large.
The prosecutor said for some time now, snatching of motor bikes is on the increase within Asamankese and the surrounding villages.
He said Intelligence revealed that the perpetrators of this crime engage the services of their unsuspected victims on a charter and then lure them to a
lonely place where they know their counterparts are and eventually tie them up and snatch their motor bikes from them.
He said on 8/12/22, all the four accused persons who are syndicates in the snatching of motor bikes and cars met at a spot in the bush near Obotwene junction along Asamankese Suhum road and conspired to steal motor bikes.
Ayensu Frederick went to Yaw Tano and hired the complainant to take him to Obotwene junction where he knew his counterparts were waiting, so on reaching his destination, Ayensu paid complainant GHC15.00 and alighted from the motor bike.
The accused persons at large grabbed complainant and attempted to tie him up but he managed to escape from him and abandoned his motor bike.
Ayensu Frederick chased complainant but could not get arrest him so the accused persons moved the motor bike and hide it in the bush and ran away with the moto key.
Fortunately,the complainant manage to get his neighbours who chased Ayensu Frederick and arrested him.
Later On 9/12/22, Simon Teye was also arrested at check-in Hotel Asamankese.
After investigations the accused persons were charged with the offences and sent to Court for Prosecution.
