Accra, Ghana – July 30, 2025
The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has commended the Government of Ghana and national security agencies for their swift and coordinated evacuation of students from high-risk areas affected by ongoing conflict in and around Bawku, including Nalerigu.
In a press statement signed by its Executive Director, Mr. William Boadi, the education-focused think tank expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of two students who tragically lost their lives during a recent violent incident at Nalerigu Senior High School.
EAI condemned what it described as a “senseless act of violence” and stressed that schools must remain safe havens for learning and development, not targets of conflict or political violence.
According to Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the evacuation exercise was initiated to protect vulnerable students and educators amid the unrest in the Upper East Region. EAI described this move as not only timely but also essential in preventing further loss of life and trauma among youth in the region.
Mr. Boadi used the statement to call on traditional leaders, political figures, civil society organizations, and community members to work together toward sustainable peace and reconciliation in the affected areas.
“The protection of education must be a national priority,” the statement read. “Education must not be a casualty of conflict.”
EAI also urged the government and humanitarian agencies to provide psychosocial support for affected students and staff, ensuring a safe and inclusive reintegration into academic environments once stability is restored.
The institute reaffirmed its commitment to championing quality education and social justice across Ghana and called on all Ghanaians to “protect education, preserve life, and promote peace.”
