The Outgoing Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mrs. Dinah Adu-Owusu, has described the Eastern Region as one of Ghana’s most naturally endowed areas, blessed with a wide range of breathtaking tourist attractions that continue to draw visitors from across the country and beyond.
Speaking at a press briefing in Koforidua, Mrs. Adu-Owusu emphasized that the region’s tourism potential remains a major asset to Ghana’s tourism development. She noted that the GTA is fully committed to promoting, preserving, and developing these sites to enhance tourism revenue and contribute meaningfully to national economic growth.
According to her, the Authority is working closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and other relevant government agencies to improve road networks and accessibility to major tourist destinations in the region. She stressed that better infrastructure would significantly boost both domestic and international tourism, benefiting local communities and businesses.
Mrs. Adu-Owusu further highlighted some of the Eastern Region’s most popular attractions, including the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Lake Volta, Umbrella Rock, Boti Falls, the Big Tree at Akim Oda, Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, Akosombo Dam, and the Kwahu Paragliding site, among several others. She noted that these destinations not only showcase the region’s rich natural beauty but also its cultural and historical heritage.
As she prepares to hand over to her successor, Mrs. Adu-Owusu urged the media to continue supporting the Ghana Tourism Authority’s initiatives and to collaborate with her successor to further uplift the image of the Eastern Region as a leading tourism destination.
She also expressed deep appreciation to journalists and media houses in the region for their consistent partnership and support during her tenure.
“I am truly grateful for the cooperation and encouragement I have received from the media over the years. Together, we have promoted the Eastern Region as a peaceful, beautiful, and welcoming destination. I believe with continued collaboration, the region’s tourism will reach even greater heights,” she said.
Mrs. Dinah Adu-Owusu concluded by calling on all stakeholders—traditional authorities, district assemblies, and private investors—to work hand in hand with the GTA to harness the full potential of tourism in the region for sustainable development.
