The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, has issued a strong warning to Heads of Institutions and Municipal/District Directors of Education who have been allegedly impersonating her office to issue threats and intimidate staff.
In an official communication, the Regional Director noted that it has come to the attention of the Education Directorate that some school heads and local education officers are wrongfully using her position as leverage to coerce or intimidate teachers and other staff into actions that may not align with professional conduct.
Dr. Owusu emphasized that such behavior is strictly prohibited and undermines the values of respect and professionalism that are expected in the educational sector.
“Any Head of Institution or Municipal/District Director who is fond of engaging in that act must desist from it immediately. It does not foster a good working environment,” she stated.
She further reminded all education officers that the Ghana Education Service (GES) Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and relevant organizational policies must guide their actions at all times.
The statement, has been copied to leadership of key education unions including GNAT, NAGRAT, TEWU, and PRETAG.
The Director expressed her appreciation for the cooperation of stakeholders and reiterated the commitment of the Regional Directorate to maintaining a respectful and effective work culture.
