Government is to commence the installation of Medical liquid oxygen production plant at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua to curb challenges the hospital faces in supply of the essential medical substance.
The giant swing absorption plant will not only serve the Regional Hospital but other district hospitals in the region.
The Director General of Ghana Health Service said this in a speech read on his behalf by Dr. Ebo Hammond who is the Director of Health Administration and Support Services-GHS during handing over of a multipurpose Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) constructed by Nana Owiredu Wadie I Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
The contractor has visited the site for feasibility study to commence work possibly next month .
“a giant pressure swing absorption plant popularly called oxygen generating plant with the capacity of producing 80 normal meter cube per hour of medical grade oxygen. The contractor visited the hospital today hopefully by next month they will start the construction and installation. It will serve the regional hospital and other district hospitals in the region” Dr.Hammond said.
Recently, a private security personnel was killed at the hospital after one of the oxygen cylinders being offloaded from a vehicle hit the ground and exploded.
GHS believes the production plant will prevent some of these incidents.
Dr.Hammond also said a modern computer tomography Scan has already been installed to replace the one which was broken down three years ago.
During the period of broken down scan, patients who required x-ray services travelled to Accra and Kumasi.
The situation impaired quality healthcare delivery given that Eastern Regional hospital is a referral center for the region.
