Construction work is steadily ongoing on the 11 point five kilometer Somanya – Kpong and four point one kilometer Somanya – Asitey roads with heavy machinery back on site. The construction work on the road started in June 2024 but came to a halt along the way due to lack of disbursement of funds from the government.
The poor nature of the road poses serious risks, with “thick dust, deep potholes, and dangerous conditions” becoming a daily burden for the road users.
The Regional Minister Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has toured the project sites to inspect the progress of work. She was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executives for Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo, Francis Addo Akumatey and John Matey. The Minister said work has resumed because President Mahama – led government is able to secure funds as part of its resetting agenda to bring back the contractor on site.
She entreated residents and shop owners along the roadside to cooperate with the contractor to execute the job so work can be completed within the stipulated time frame. She said the current government is a listening one that has a lot in the pipeline to offer the citizenry but not at a goal.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the work so far and assured the community members and Ghanainas at large to have faith in the NDC government to deliver on its promises.
The Project Manager for that General Construction Limited, Billy Brigham Deku said although work is going on unabated, pedestrians and other road users kept on distracting their activities by ignoring warning signs and exposing themselves to danger. He therefore appealed to them to exercise patience as they go about their normal duties especially when heavy machinery are working on the roads.
