The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, today, Monday, 2nd June 2025, launched the 2025 Tertiary Institutions Education Fair with a call to empower final-year senior high school students with the knowledge and guidance needed to shape their future.
The launch, held at Krobo Girls’ Senior High School in Odumase Krobo, is expected to benefit students from 94 second cycle schools across the region.
Mrs. Awatey emphasized the importance of equipping young people with timely and relevant information to help them align their academic and career choices with their strengths and aspirations. She noted that the fair, which has been structured into 13 zonal centres for broader reach, provides students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with university representatives, learn about available programmes, understand admission requirements, and explore scholarship opportunities.
The Minister further outlined a series of bold educational reforms introduced by government to support the transition from secondary to tertiary education. These include the abolition of the double-track system, the establishment of Regional TVET Centres of Excellence, the implementation of a “No Academic Fee” policy for first-year tertiary students, and free tertiary education for persons with disabilities. She stressed that these interventions are part of a wider vision to make higher education not only more accessible, but also more responsive to the skills needed in today’s dynamic job market.
As part of its broader strategy to promote inclusive access to tertiary education, the fair also offers targeted career counselling sessions to help students navigate this critical stage of their academic journey. The initiative, which stems from the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council’s ongoing collaboration with tertiary institutions, reflects a strong commitment to nurturing a well-informed and future-ready generation of leaders and professionals.
