The Electoral Commission has declared the NDC Parliamentary candidate Haruna Apaw Wiredu winner of the parliamentary election in Fanteakwa North in Eastern Region.
Haruna Apaw Wiredu secured 11,138 as against 10,847 garnered by Kwame Appiah Kodua, NPP parliamentary candidate.
Total valid votes cast was 21985 out 22,566 total votes cast while total rejected 581.
He was declared by Zacharia Adams, the returning officer. But the NPP agents were not present to sign the pink sheet.
Fanteakwa North was among four constituencies with parliamentary results in contention in the region.
NDC has won Fanteakwa North Presidential and Parliamentary for the first time in 24 years.
Haruna Appaw Wiredu, the MP elect firstly questioned the EC for delaying the declaration process given that there were enough evidence that he won the election.
Haruna Apaw Wiredu promised to facilitate development in Fanteakwa North constituency. He acknowledged developmental challenges confronting the people such as lack of telcomunucation network , water, good roads and many basic social amenities.
Supporters of the party took to the streets after the declaration to jubilate the victory.
