The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has said the decision to make the Ghana card the only document for voter registration exercise is to help curb problems of Ghana’s general polls.
Reacting to the implementation of the CI on Kumasi-based Oyerepa Radio, Dr Serebour revealed that this would go a long way to sanitize the electoral system and ensure that only qualified Ghanaian citizens are captured in the electoral register.
However, he refuted claims by the NDC and some sections of Ghanaians that some voters will be disenfranchised due to making the Ghana Card the sole document for the voter registration exercise going into the 2024 elections.
He explained that the Commission had always reached out to the leadership of the NDC serving them with letters and minutes after every meeting which they don’t even attend.
He disclosed that the National Identification Authority (NIA) will release the national cards to all eligible voters before the 2024 elections.
