There was a misunderstanding at Nsabaa Presbyterian Primary School Polling station in Pokrom – Nsaba in Akuapem South Constituency of the Eastern Region Sunday after EC official denied an 85-year-old woman from registering for refusing to take off her headscarf.
The applicant Janet Sarfoa was taken to the registration center at 4:00 pm by her daughter -Atiemo Gladys. After going through various stages of the registration process, an official identified as Dorcas who is supposed to take picture of the applicant asked her to completely take off the headgear but the woman insisted she has loss hair hence cannot completely take off the headscarf therefore but could ensure her face and ears are visible enough to be captured.
But according to the daughter of the octogenarian, the EC Official sacked the old woman from the registration center that she can’t complete her registration process for failure to take off the headscarf.
The situation caused brief altercation as the residents alleged some old women were denied registration on similar grounds while others forced to take off their entire headscarf.
But for this incident, the voters registration exercise had been smooth in the Pokrom Nsabaa community where three polling stations have been clustered. About 2000 qualified voters have so far been registered.
