The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power to the Koforidua Multi-Purpose Youth Resource Center due to an outstanding debt exceeding GH₵30,000.
The facility, which was inaugurated by President Nana Akufo-Addo on December 27, 2023, boasts a FIFA-standard pitch, tartan tracks, a gymnasium and various other centers designed for sports and training.
Since its opening, the center has hosted notable events, including the 67th Independence Day parade and inter-school competitions.
Additionally, the venue’s forecourt has been frequently rented out for social activities such as funerals and church programs.
The power disconnection follows the National Youth Authority’s failure to settle the debt with ECG.
Despite attempts to reach ECG for comment, no response was received.
However, a source at Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) confirmed the disconnection.
