Another act of vandalism has left residents in the Lartey Gas area of Koforidua without electricity, as thieves targeted yet another electricity transformer operated by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The perpetrators, in their brazen attempt, stripped the transformer of its coils and other crucial components, rendering the entire vicinity in darkness.
This incident only adds to the growing concern of transformer thefts plaguing not only Koforidua but the entire Eastern Region and beyond.
ECG, the principal provider of electricity in Ghana, finds itself grappling with the persistent menace, despite concerted efforts to curb such criminal activities.
In response to the escalating situation, ECG has initiated measures to fortify vulnerable transformers across the Eastern Region.
One such strategy involves the erection of concrete fences around these vital infrastructure points, aiming to deter potential thieves and safeguarding the electricity supply for local communities.
According to Management of ECG, the continued occurrence of transformer vandalism underscores the urgent need for public support to address the root causes of such criminal behavior.
Authorities urge the public to be vigilant and swiftly report unannounced power outage particular in the night for immediate investigation to determine possible tempering of transformers.
