The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has warned its customers to be vigilant about fraudsters ahead of the nationwide revenue mobilization initiative known as “Operation Zero.”
Ahead of the exercise, the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Mr. Emmanuel Halm advised customers to be cautious during the operation adding that staff will be in the field with their identification card number.
Mr. Halm stated that they will inspect customers’ in their various residences and all power-consuming institutions during the operation.
In an interview with Nhyiraba Nartey Solomon of Bryt FM, Mr. Halm indicated that they will use the opportunity to capture customers who don’t pay their bills into their system.
The PRO cautioned customers against illegal connections which affect the company in revenue generation.
He disclosed that the exercise will comprise the deployment of staff to collect debt, check for illegal connections, and meter installation for new customers.
He said that all their offices will be open to serve customers during the “Operation Zero” exercise across the country.
Mr. Halm continued that the ECG will work in collaboration with the security services to prevent and apprehend anyone who obstructs the “Operation Zero” exercise.
Mr. Halm affirmed that ECG will grant a moratorium to all customers who are consuming electricity without paying for it, to allow them to visit their respective ECG offices for immediate regularization of their supply.
Operation Zero will begin on July 11 and conclude on September 11, 2023, this two-month campaign aims to recover every outstanding debt to the last pesewa.
