Renowned economist Kwame Pianim has endorsed calls for Ken Ofori-Atta, the finance minister, to resign.
He claims he has no justification for continuing in his position given the economic crisis he is allegedly overseeing.
He thinks there are those who are more suited to manage the public purse and get it out of the current bind.
Ghana is currently seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due to growing hardship, rising living expenses, and a weakening cedi.
In this light, Mr Pianim insists that “I can go onto the street, close my eyes and pick ten people who will do the job better than Ken Ofori-Atta is doing.”
About 80 New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs demanded Mr Ofori-and Atta’s Charles Adu-immediate Boahen’s resignation on Monday due to their underperformance, which is to blame for the weak status of the economy.
They claim that Ken Ofori-continued Atta’s tenure in office is delaying the country’s request for an IMF bailout because the Minister has lost all credibility.
However, following a discussion with the President, the NPP MPs came to an agreement to let the under-fire ministries continue in their positions until the IMF negotiations were concluded.
Kwame Pianim argued on JoyNews’ Upfront on Thursday that the country’s problems are intolerable and must prompt the Minister to resign.
“He has done enough. And I am appealing to him in the same of the good Lord he professes to believe in and to worship. Please go before you destroy this country,” he added.
