As economic hardship has led to an increase in the prices of goods and services, cocoa farmers in the country are calling for another adjustment over the price of a cocoa bag to help cushion them.
The farmers lamented bitterly that they cannot even use the money they get to purchase chemicals and inputs to help boost the farm.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Nartey Solomon of Bryt Fm on how the recent economic hardship is affecting their activities, cocoa farmers in the Kwaebibirem municipality of the Eastern region affirmed that they cannot buy a bag of rice with the current price of a cocoa bag.
‘‘We are struggling in this season on how things are going in this country; our cocoa money is valueless and we can’t use it for anything,’’ they complained.
Some farmers in the Birim North District also pleaded with President Nana Akufo to increase the price of cocoa to thousand two hundred Ghana cedis (Ghc1200) else they sell their cocoa farms to illegal miners.
Meanwhile, some farmers in the Nkawkaw Municipality also bemoaned over world economic challenges as the price of fertilizers and chemicals that are being used to improve the standard of cacao farmers
They called on President Akufo-Addo to intervene on behalf of cocoa farmers to enjoy the suffering of farming.
