Director of legal affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), According to Abraham Amaliba, has said that it’s time President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo addresses the public about the economic difficulties plaguing Ghanaians.
In the same way that the President addressed the nation during the Covid era, Mr Akufo-Addo must do the same now since Ghanaians are suffering from growing expenses of living, he claimed.
We are in a really difficult situation; we have never seen this before, he stated on the New Day show with Johnnie Hughes on TV3 on Friday, October 21.
“What I expect the government to do is for the president to address the nation because this is more or less like the war against the people of this country.
“When there was Covid he was always in our rooms when we didn’t need him, this is the time for him to address Ghanaians.”
The administration has acknowledged that Ghanaians are having a difficult time, but steps are being taken to improve their situation.
In order to deal with the crisis, the administration is requesting assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In order to further discussions on a potential IMF-supported program, an IMF team led by Stéphane Roudet met with the teams of the Bank of Ghana Governor Addison and Finance Minister Ofori-Atta from October 11–19 in Washington, DC.
“The Ghanaian team and IMF staff had extremely constructive discussions on the authorities’ post-COVID agenda for economic growth and accompanying policies and reforms that might be supported by a new IMF agreement,” Mr Roudet said in a statement following the sessions.
