A woman has abandoned her child on the streets of Koforidua over economic hardship.
The woman reportedly left the baby to the father in the house and escaped accusing the man of inability to take care of them.
A few days later, the man spotted the woman in the morning at the Galamsey traffick light, chased and gave the baby back to her.
However, the woman abandoned the baby on the street and attempted to run away but was pursued by eyewitnesses to pick up the baby.
The couple were arrested by some witnesses who thronged the scene and drove them in a taxi to Social Welfare Office.
The couple is said to be labourers.
The current economic hardship is fuelling an increase in child neglect cases in the region.
Sources from the social welfare and Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSSU) in the Eastern region indicate that many cases of child neglect are being recorded.
