Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, has said that she didn’t bother herself going to cast her vote as a patriotic citizen on December 7 (Election Day) but rather had fun at the beach on the day.
According to her, she did not even monitor the elections as she cooled off at the beach.
“[I was] at the beach. I did not vote, I did not monitor the elections, why should I. I was not paid to monitor the elections, so I cannot have time to monitor the elections,” she said in an interview on Joy FM.
President Akufo-Addo in June 2018 removed Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa from office.
This was after a committee set up by the then Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo to investigate separate complaints brought against the three persons by Ghanaian citizens, recommended their removal from office.
The Committee recommended their removal on the basis of stated misbehavior and incompetence, pursuant to Article 146 (1) of the Constitution.
When pushed further, the one-time chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education, NCCE, a state agency that sensitizes citizens on their rights and responsibilities, said as a private individual, she has the right to do whatever she wants as long as it is within the laws of Ghana.
