Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, has said that she didn’t spend even a minute of her time monitoring the general elections which were held on December 7, 2020.
According to her she rather spent her time at the beach catching cruize rather than monitoring the elections.
“[I was] at the beach. I did not vote, I did not monitor the elections, why should I. I was not paid to monitor the elections, so I cannot have time to monitor the elections,” she said in an interview on Joy FM.
When pushed further, the one-time chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education, NCCE, a state agency that sensitizes citizens on their rights and responsibilities, said as a private individual, she has the right to do whatever she wants as long as it is within the laws of Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo in June 2018 removed Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa from office.
This was after a committee set up by the then Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo to investigate separate complaints brought against the three persons by Ghanaian citizens, recommended their removal from office.
