The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Lower West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Michael Adusei has observed that most Ghanaians who are eligible voters do not like a truthful message from aspirants.
According to him, aspirants who go out with the truthful message are rejected in Ghana now and expressed worry over how Ghana Politics is heading towards.
Mr. Michael Adusei said this during a Town Hall meeting organized by the Justice and Peace Commission in the Catholic Church in Asamankese.
He said Ghanaians are expecting more these days from aspirants and Members of Parliament over lack of knowledge on the core duties of a Member of Parliament.
Mr. Adusei pledge to walk with the truth and maintain peace in the Constituency and reiterated his commitment to be an Ambassador of Peace.
The Parliamentary candidate promised to expand Community Based Health Planning Services to all remote areas, use his first three months Common fund to construct durbar ground for people in Asamankese.
The Saint Mary Parish Priest in Asamankese Catholic church, Reverend Father Paul Tordzro said to stimulate and encourage active and wider consultations on the matter, the public must be engaged, educated, and sensitized on this very important national agenda regarding the role of Parliament in national and community development and highlighting the sovereign powers of the people and unique mandates of local authorities for community development.
He said” there is an ever-increasing demand on MPs to attend social gatherings including weddings, funerals, outdooring; pay hospital bills, school fees, bride price; make various forms of donations to Churches, Mosques among others to be voted into Parliament to represent the constituency. The weight of these demands has tended to relegate the legislative, deliberative, and oversight duties of Parliament over the Executive arm of government to the background to the detriment of good governance.”
“Furthermore, the MP is increasingly seen as an initiator of constituency and district level development projects, a role which is clearly defined for district assemblies by law. Many commentators attribute this to many unattainable promises that parliamentary candidates make during their campaigns for elections into Parliament. Others also attribute it to the fact that if the Parliamentary candidate fails to give these vain promises the electorate will not vote for him.”
