The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has suggested Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, as his running partner for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to Citi news, President Akufo-Addo was consulted by Dr. Bawumia on his choice of running partner during a Tuesday night meeting.
According to reports, President Akufo-Addo offered some advice, expressed his opinions, and ultimately approved Dr. Bawumia’s appointment.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the selected candidate, a 56-year-old physician with a degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), when he presented NAPO’s name to the President. After being elected to the legislature for the first time in 2008, he was re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.
Dr. Bawumia went on to say that NAPO was appointed as Education Minister in 2017 and had previously served on the Parliamentary Defence, Interior, and Health Appointments Committees.
Demands are mounting for Dr. Bawumia to select the Energy Minister as his running mate in the elections scheduled for December.
Prior to the general elections of 2024, a number of polls have revealed that Opoku Prempeh is the NPP party executives’ favored candidate for running mate.
