The New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also referred to as Chairman Wontumi, has suggested that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Mahama engage in a debate.
Mr. Boasiako thinks that the debate will resolve any doubts about the two statesmen’s competence because they will be forced to present proof of their accomplishments. Chairman Wontumi has indicated that he is willing to host the debate on one of his media platforms.
“I own Wontumi TV in Kumasi. I own Movement TV in Accra. I own Western Diamond in Takoradi. I can’t wait for the day all these precious media will call for one-on-one interview with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama for debate and for everybody to listen to them on what you have done and what you want to do. It is not about talking. It is too cheap,” he said.
Throughout his three decades in active politics, Dr. Bawumia has consistently called Mr. Mahama inept, emphasizing that the former president and NDC flagbearer has no concrete plans for changing the nation.
Stan Dogbe, a former presidential staffer under John Mahama, is on the opposing side of politics and believes Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s perceived ability has decreased. The Vice President, according to Dogbe, “simply not fit for purpose.”
Vice President Dr. Bawumia and former President Mahama will square off in the 2024 presidential contest, setting up a much awaited clash.
