In an effort to maintain Ghana’s democratic legacy for future generations, the National Peace Council has launched the Peace Crusade Tour ahead of the forthcoming December 7 general elections.
The Peace Crusade Tour was aimed to preach peace in the sixteen regions ahead of the upcoming general elections with a legacy deeply rooted in Ghana’s democracy and sovereignty.
It will become a beacon of peace, extending the message of peace to Ghanaians nationwide.
The Peace Crusade Tour by the National Peace Council is not confined to one region; it is set to embark on a nationwide tour, reaching various corners of Ghanaians to extend its peaceful education for 2024 elections.
The 2024 Peace Crusade Tour was launched in Koforidua at the Ascension congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana with faith-based groups.
Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng has urged Ghanaians to demonstrate peace before, during and after the polls.
Speaking at the 2024 Peace Crusade Tour launch, Hon. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng entreated the public to maintain Ghana’s stability and democracy, security and peace in the country.
He cautioned the major political parties to desist from actions that will create violence ahead of the general elections adding that the Electoral Commission must be fair and impartial for electorates and political parties.
“Ghana Police Service is a highly respected institution that is closer to all Ghanaians than the military. Elections may turn into something unpleasant if the military is deployed. Military personnel are trained to shoot and kill; they must not be involved in elections. Military comes in where the situation is beyond the police,’’ said Hon. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of National House of Chiefs on his part called Ghanaians to vote based on their assessment and accept the result which will be declared by the electoral commission.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II warned electorates to reject money politicians will be using to buy votes, and items they will be using to deceive during the elections.
He called religious leaders to use their platforms to preach and educate congregants about peace and harmony ahead of the elections.
George Amoh, Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council has disclosed that the council has lined up a number of activities to spread peace to Ghanaians.
He indicated that with the introduction of the political party trust building program the hard work by the council, the National Democratic Party (NDC) has agreed to return to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) of the Electoral Commission (EC) to discuss among other things, issues relating to the December polls.
Mr George Amoh added that they have launched a program to monitor the activities of the media in collaboration with the Media Foundation for West Africa.
Mr George Amoh advised Ghanaians to support any political party who will emerge as a winner for the 2024 general election.
