The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Akyem Constituency of the Eastern Region, Mr. Alex Amoh has called on President Akufo-Addo, Members of Parliament, and the Ministry of Local Government as matter of urgency to consider the amendment of the Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution to allow the Election of Chief Executives for Assemblies in Ghana.
He said the other would introduce competition in Local Government elections by amending Article 55(3) of the 1992 Constitution which seems to positively respond to long-standing advocacy by much local government expects.
Commenting on the list of the first batch of ministers which was released on 21st January 2021 by the President, Mr. Alex Amoh commanded Nana Akufo-Addo for reducing the number of Ministries and Appointees in his second term.
He called on the Party leaders and those responsible for the selection of people for the Chief Executive position in the Assemblies to submit names of persons who are ready to serve the people as the president representatives to the Local Government Minister and Nana Akufo-Addo for consideration.
Mr. Amoh noted some of the MMDC`s failed their people and the president and that led to the reduction of parliamentary and presidential votes in the December election while the party lost some parliamentary seats due to the abysmal performance of some Chief Executives in the Assemblies.
The Communication Director said if the Constitution is amended, the entire electorates will elect qualified and competent Chief Executives for the Assemblies to stop the chaos which normally occurs before and after the appointment of MMDCE`s in the Country.
He called on persons seeking for their consideration to serving as Chief Executives in the Assemblies to stop backbiting and any other act that will divide leaders and members of the Party.
