As part of our stakeholder engagement on illegal mining, the minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor met the Christian Council of Ghana and other religious bodies to court their support for the gamut of measures being implemented by the government to come to grips with this matter.
The Council, which represents almost all Christians in communities in our country, has a great voice that can be used to support the fight.
The meeting was frank, open, fruitful and very productive. I urged our religious leaders to speak to the moral conscience of our citizens to respect the integrity of God’s creation and desist from destroying our lands and water bodies.
The Council presented me with a copy of their Press Statement, which we have promised to study and further engage on.
The fight against illegal mining remains a collective action, and we will continue to engage stakeholders and implement the right policies to protect our lands, forests and water bodies.
