The Parliamentary Committee on Energy has started visiting some agencies in the power sector. It began with GRIDCO, the Energy Commission, and PURC.
At GRIDCO, it was revealed that illegal mining activities are damaging transmission towers, which could eventually affect power supply.
At the Energy Commission, Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum, told the Committee that, in fulfilling its mandate, the building they occupy is nearly a zero-energy structure. And to ensure public safety, the Commission has trained and certified over 18,000 electrical wiring professionals.
The last stop of the visit was PURC, where they announced plans to advocate for the passage of a Water Act.
The Chairman of the Energy Committee, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, assured the institutions of the Committee’s readiness to assist in the resolution of their challenges to achieve their respective mandates.
