Richmond Rockson, Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, addressed public concerns regarding electricity supply. He dismissed the recent media speculation, stating that he didn’t understand why certain media outlets create their own stories and then present them as fact.
He went on to explain that, just two days ago, he was in Kumasi (Tuesday) as part of the government’s ongoing initiatives. Specifically, they had upgraded one of their power lines in Ahodwo to a more stable circuit system. This upgrade, he explained, will improve the power supply in the area. He added that if you compare the previous system with the new one, the upgrades are significant. For example, the current installation is nearly 565 MW, up from the earlier 330 MW.
During the interview, Mr Rockson also referenced comments made by the Minister of Energy. According to the Minister, ENI, the company responsible for supplying gas, will increase their gas supply by 30 million cubic feet this coming Sunday. This translates to an increase from 240 MMT to 270 MMT. Rockson emphasized that this is excellent news for the country, as more natural gas means a reduction in the cost of power production and more efficient system maintenance.
The Minister also informed the public that there would be power interruptions this Sunday due to the ongoing work. He asked Ghanaians to bear with them and understand that these interruptions are part of necessary upgrades. It is expected that up to 460,000 people could be affected, although they are optimistic that these disruptions will be minimized. The Ministry is actively working to mitigate any issues arising from the natural gas supply adjustments.
