Ghana’s quest at leveraging on best practices across the world towards the judicious exploitation of our hydrocarbon resources continues unabated, in the pursuit of shared prosperity and growth.
Pursuant to these efforts, Energy minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh met officials of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, regulator of Norway’s oil and gas industry, the counterpart of Ghana’s Petroleum Commission.
Together with officials of the Commission, the two discussed, among others, their Oil for Development Programme (OfD) under which Ghana has benefited in the areas of legal and regulatory support, technical and data management support, among others.
Whilst expressing Ghana’s gratitude for this long-standing collaboration, the minister called for the need to take the partnership with the NPD to a different level as we seek to deepen our regulatory framework to cover key issues such as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), oil and gas repository management as well as local content and local participation.
He asked the NPD to support Ghana in hands-on training as that has proven to be the sustainable means through which Ghanaians can be equipped technically to participate in the industry.
This, he said will be in furtherance of our efforts under the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Programme (AOGC).
Dr. Opoku Prempeh added “I look forward to deepening the frontiers of the collaboration with the NPD and indeed other well-established oil and gas producing countries as we strive to move our industry from nascence to an advanced one”.
“To this end, I am happy that the delegation indicated that, they have Ghana in mind in their upcoming Energy for Development Programme”.
