A group known as the Concerned Citizens of Abuakwa North, hailing from the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, took to the streets of New Tafo and Anyinasin to voice their dissatisfaction with the state of roads in their community.
Led by Mr. Wilson Dakudzi, also known as Abenbebom, and Mr. Kofi Asante, the group wielded placards with poignant messages, questioning President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s commitment to fulfilling development promises in their region.
The placards bore inscriptions like “Where is our share of the road?” and “Remember and keep your promises, Mr. President,” reflecting the frustrations of the citizens. Some other messages read, “Is Anyinasin not part of Ghana? Why, Mr. President?” and “Abuakwa North deserves better.”
The group’s primary grievance is the deteriorating state of their road network, which has been a persistent issue for many years.
They lamented that successive governments, particularly President Akufo-Addo, who began his political journey in the constituency, have not adequately addressed their concerns, resulting in significant hardships for the residents.
The deplorable road conditions extend from Opass Junction to Old Tafo Junction, from Old Tafo to Anyinasin, and from Crig to Nobi. These roads have not only caused damage to human life and property, especially during heavy rains but have also severely affected the social and economic life of the community.
Additionally, the citizens have had to contend with an increase in robbery cases along the Anyinasin route, primarily due to the poor state of the road. Nighttime driving has become particularly perilous, given the hazardous road conditions.
Moreover, the road’s condition poses a significant threat in cases of medical emergencies and other critical situations, hindering the prompt response of police and emergency services to distressed individuals.
The citizens delivered a stern message to the President and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasizing that the Abuakwa North constituency is not a stronghold to be taken for granted. They made it clear that their votes would be based on the administration’s achievements and development in the region.
They called out the delay in response from authorities, specifically the Abuakwa blocks, and questioned why their concerns had not been addressed. The group referenced a promise made by the Vice President during a delegates conference to discuss the issue with the Road Minister, Hon. Amoah Atta, but they claim to have received no communication on the matter.
In conclusion, the Concerned Citizens of Abuakwa North assert that their community deserves better and is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration to fulfill its promises for development in the region.
