In a bid to ensure food security in the country, the Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan has called for strict enforcement of our laws that ban burning of fire in bushes or forests.
He has observed that about 90% of bushfires that destroys farms and foodstuffs are caused by Human carelessness and has therefore cautioned against any form of irresponsible practices or activities especially during this harmattan season.
Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan made this disclosure in an interview with Asta FM in Techiman after the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council presented several boxes of cutlasses and wellington boots to the Ghana National Fire Service to be distributed among the various Fire Volunteer Squads across the districts in the region.
Receiving the items, A.C.F.O.1 Mrs. Roberta Ghanson the Bono East Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service advised Farmers to always engage the services of the Fire Volunteer Squads in their various communities when they want to burn their farms.
Finally, some of the Fire Volunteer Squads also expressed their excitement saying the cutlasses and wellington boots had come at the right time and would put them to good use in order to be able to discharge their duties effectively.
