The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, often known as Nana B, has described the premature death of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi as a tremendous loss to the party and Ghana as a whole.
Nana B revealed that Kumi’s death was announced during an important meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
“This is a big blow. It is a devastating moment for the NPP. The news came today when we were having a NEC meeting. The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP broke the news, and it was later confirmed by the Minority Leader. It’s a very unfortunate event,” he said in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Monday, July 7.
One of the NPP’s bright young leaders, the 40-year-old MP passed away after a brief illness. Speaking passionately, Nana B recalled his close relationship with Kumi that went beyond their political affiliation.
“Ernest is a personal friend beyond politics. He was a great guy—intelligent, young, and full of life. The last time I was with him was in Belgium when we attended a conference together. He was truly a rising star in the NPP.”
Nana B sent his sympathies and asked Ghanaians to keep Kumi’s immediate family in their prayers. He was particularly concerned about his wife.
“It’s so sad… Our condolences to the family and the wife. I know she is going through a lot right now. We hope and pray that the good Lord grants her the needed strength to carry on.”
