President of the Presbyterian University College of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Owusu Oduro, has called on the government to speed up the establishment of the National Research Fund to encourage graduate students and researchers to find a solution to the numerous developmental challenges facing the country.
He said any nation that does not invest in research cannot develop beyond the service industry and will only seek to grow the service industry at the expense of the production industry.
Prof. Oduro Owusu made the call when addressing the University’s school of graduate studies fourth congregation at Akropong in the Eastern Region.
The School of Graduate Studies of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana was established in 2016 to ensure the development of graduate programs that enhance the intellectual life of the University by enabling graduates and professional students to undertake scholarly study and advanced research and prepare for professional work in diverse career paths.
In all, 309 students graduated from their various programs of study. The President of the University, Prof. Ebenezer Owusu Oduro said private universities deserve GETFund projects and assistance since they are also engaged in helping to reduce the manpower deficit of the nation.
He said to produce quality graduates of character for the nation, issues of integrity, selflessness, and maturity are important considerations in the approach to graduate training.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante noted some master’s degree holders cannot construct proper grammar.
A situation he said does not auger well and urged the graduands to apply the knowledge they have acquired appropriately in their fields of work.
