Following the recently concluded presidential election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is still unified, according to Justin Frimpong Kodua, general secretary of the party.
Following a string of violent incidents and accusations of injustice during the Super Delegates Congress, the ruling party had significant internal problems.
As a result, Alan Kyerematen, a prominent party member and contender for flagbearership at the time, withdrew from the contest and later left the party.
Speaking on Tuesday’s Dwaso Nsem morning program on Adom FM, Mr. Kodua asserted that the party’s purported divide has ended with the choice of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer.
“We no longer have camps of aspirants. We are now a united front,” he said.
The NPP General Secretary noted that, the leadership of the party will ensure all issues are resolved.
“All the committees will have the aspirants and supporters on board. We will forge unity to grow in the party,” he added.
The party can only break the eight if everyone is on board, according to Mr. Kodua.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, defeated Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former Minister of Agriculture, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, the former MP for Mampong, with almost 61% of the vote.
Following Dr. Bawumia’s announcement as the winner, Mr. Agyapong, Dr. Akoto, and Mr. Addai-Nimoh expressed their support.
