Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has taken a swipe at Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu after reportedly threatening to fight Ghanaian journalists and fans following their elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars endured a difficult AFCON tournament after failing to beat Mozambique in the final group game to snatch qualification to the knockout stage.
Ghana has now failed to make it to the knockout stage of the continental showpiece for the second time running having last suffered early elimination in AFCON 2021 held in Cameroon.
The West Africa powerhouse drew two games at the Nations Cup, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
Salisu is reported to have dared Ghanaian journalists, who expressed their frustrations after the game to man up and face him.
However, the former Hearts of Oak star in an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM criticized Salisu’s actions while he claims he is a better player than him, even at his age.
“Mohammed Salisu’s response actions childish and senseless. Salisu has not performed ever since he joined the Black Stars. Even at my age, I’m better than him. I just need to train and I’m good to go. You guys have broken the heart of Ghanaians and when they pour out their frustrations you give them rubbish and nonsensical response”
“You may earn more money at your club but don’t forget it’s the National team that can lift you to get to attain greater heights. The national team belongs to the supporters so if things aren’t going right they have every right to complain”
The Black Stars will return to action in March for the FIFA international break and are expected to play World Champions, Argentina in a friendly in Beijing, China.
