Former Black Stars B captain Isaac Twum has clashed with ex-Ghana defender Dan Quaye over national team call ups.
Dan Quaye, a member of the 2006 World Cup squad revealing how Ghana can secure qualification to the 2022 World Cup and make an impact at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to Koforidua-based Aben FM, asserted the need for the experienced players to pass on their knowledge to the young ones.
But Twum who currently plies his trade for Norwegian club Mjøndalen thinks otherwise.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Inter Allies skipper entreated the technical team headed by Milovan Rajevac to focus on the young ones as he believes they can annex the title for the nation instead of experienced players.
“At the moment, we have a new generation of players and if we want to build a team that can win us titles, I believe the young ones must be given the chance. We have to encourage the youngsters, look at how Fatawu Issahaku fared in his first game for the Black Stars”
“We gave some players the chance and they excelled, Kamaldeen, Kudus and others are new in the national team but they are delivering, so to me, the most important thing is for us to give them the confidence and that is all”
“If the youth in the team gets the confidence, there wouldn’t be any team that can compete with the Black Stars”
“We should forget about experience players and focus on the youth because experience does not play football now. Currently, Kamaldeen can play better than Kevin Prince Boateng though he is not at par with him. Marcus Rashford can play better than Ronaldo now but the secret is that the Portuguese star is depending on what he has achieved in his career to play”
“As a country, we are in search of the AFCON trophy so I will entreat the technical handlers to invite players that can run through a game than depending on experienced players,” he said.
