The exclusion of Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III from the newly constituted board of Volta River Authority (VRA) has sparked serious agitation and concerns from the residents.
The Akosombo Dam is situated on the land of Akwamu Traditional area however, instead of the Paramount chief or a representation from the traditional council appointed to the board, Awulai Attibrukusu II, Paramount Chief of Lower Axim in the Western Region was rather appointed onto the board .
The rest of the 8 -member board are ; Ing. Jabesh Amissah -Arthur (Chairman)
Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo (Ag. Chief Executive), Dr. Lawrence Ofosu Adjare ,Hon. Collins Dauda, Hon. Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, Lawyer Wonder Victor Kutor, Awulai Attibrukusu III
and Lawyer Peggy Addo.
The new board was inaugurated by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, on Monday, June 23.
However the absence of Akwamumanhene on the new board has sparked controversy as some angry Akwamus have taken to social media to express their disappointment.
Samuel Addo Otchere, one of the angry residents posted on Facebook that “the Permanency of the Seat and Position of the Akwamuhene or a Representation from the Akwamu Traditional Authority on the VRA Governing Board is Non-negotiable.Let us stop dinning with Traitors and we shall claim what is rightfully ours not only in History and Past Glories but in current developments”.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that some youth in Akwamu traditional area are planning to demonstrate against the decision.
