Mybrytfmonline.com’s tracker on COVID-19 cases in Eastern Region has gathered through monitoring of developments in Begoro where a 65-year-old man tested positive for COVID-19 has revealed that a team of medical personnel have stormed Addokrom a community where the victim lived.
The medical team visited the community for contact tracing. Dozens of people in the community including the wife of the man who got exposed to the man have had their samples taken for testing at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. They have all been quarantined.
The team is also tracing passengers and drivers whose car transported the man to Begoro hospital.
The confirmed case has created fear and panic in the farming community.
It is still not clear how the mango farmer was infected with the virus.
On April 5, 2020, the 65-year-old man was admitted at the male ward of the Hospital on the reported case of query tuberculosis but on the next day, he developed dyspnea and fever of about 40 degree Celsius which management became suspicious hence took his sample to Noguchi which tested positive on April 11, 2020.
Meanwhile, there is anxiety at the Begoro Government Hospital where dozens of exposed Staff of the hospital who had contact with the patient have been quarantined
The male ward has since been closed for fumigation while patients who were on admission with him have all been quarantined for observation and testing.
Coronavirus cases in the Eastern Region have increased to 32.
This makes the region third highest after Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions which have recorded 452 and 49 cases respectively.
The national tally stands at 566 with 8 deaths.
