Mohammed Bin, the Leader of the livestock farmers, has requested the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) for a livestock council to facilitate swift relations between the ministry and the farmer association.
This, according to him, will channel their difficulties to the ministry for urgent consideration.
Mr. Bin added that the establishment of a livestock council would help farmers to convey their challenges to the government for a sudden response.
He made this known while the Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Afriyie Akoto visited Bono East Region, as part of his tour of the region.
Producers of maize seeds for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) at Dawadawa within Kintampo North District of the Bono East Region, the Farm Manager, Bendong Jonas, also appealed for irrigation facilities to ensure a year-round cultivation of crops.
However, Yam and maize farmers within the area also called for the need to fix their roads to support their doings.
Meanwhile, the farm produces crops such as cashew, mango aside from maize for MoFA for onward distribution to farmers on the government’s flagship program, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFFJ).
The minister for agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto toured and interacted with farmers and agricultural extension officers in the Ahafo and Bono regions respectively.
