The family of Constance Nyarko, popularly known in Koforidua as Yaa Yaa, has confirmed her death following last Saturday’s deadly terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso.
According to relatives, Yaa Yaa’s sister, who survived the attack, was airlifted alongside another injured victim to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Tuesday night.
Speaking to family members from her hospital bed, the injured sister recounted that she, Yaa Yaa, and their driver hid inside their truck when the gunmen struck. However, the attackers allegedly fired multiple shots into the vehicle before setting it ablaze.
She managed to escape despite sustaining gunshot wounds and severe burns. Yaa Yaa, however, was burnt beyond recognition.
Kofi, brother to Yaa Yaa and Awura Afua—another victim of the attack—confirmed the heartbreaking news as sympathizers trooped to the family house in Koforidua on Wednesday.
Their mother, Yaa Agyeiwaa, is devastated, describing her late daughter as the breadwinner of the family whose death has left them shattered.
At least eight Ghanaian traders, drivers, and labourers are reported to have died in the Islamist insurgent attack in the northern part of Burkina Faso.
