The family of Kofi Appiah, the 30-year-old gold dealer who was brutally murdered at Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region, is calling on the Anyianam District police Command and relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The young businessman, popularly known as Kofy, was allegedly lured to a mining site by unknow assailants miners on Sunday, June 30, 2025, under the pretense that they are miners selling him gold.
He was, however, attacked with machetes, killed, and his money stolen.
His lifeless body was later discovered by farmers in a nearby bush, prompting immediate police intervention.
Speaking to journalists, grieving relatives expressed shock over the incident and demanded swift action from law enforcement to apprehend those behind the killing.
A close friend of the deceased also recounted how Kofi had recently supported him during a difficult legal battle and had given him financial assistance. According to him, Kofi had received GH¢2,000 just days before his death to invest in his gold trading business.
Police have since retrieved the body and conveyed it to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation and autopsy, while investigations are ongoing.
A Local Journalist, Padmore Apraku, also known as Boboobo, the murder marks the fourth such incident in the area in recent months, fueling fears of growing insecurity around small-scale gold mining activities in Asamang Tamfoe and its environs.
