The Fanteakwa North District has recorded the first confirmed case of Coronavirus. The patient is a 65-year-old male farmer and a mango seller. The case is among the total 25 confirmed cases in the region as of April 11, 2020.
“The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for the region is currently 25 cases.
24 cases are in Lower Manya Krobo and one (1) in Fanteakwa North District. A new confirmed case has been detected in the Fanteakwa North district. A 65-year-Old male with no travel history nor history of contact.
Sells mangoes as a trade and also Co-infected with Tuberculosis was admitted since 6th April 2020 and in isolation.” The Eastern Regional Health Directorate has revealed
The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Eastern Region was recorded on March 31, 2020, at AFCON Construction, a Company executing Tema to Akosombo Mpakadan railway project. The patient is an Indian expatriate with the company. The Company has three camps. So far 23 workers have tested positive out of the 244 samples being tested. All confirmed cases are in stable condition and responding to treatment.
The Eastern Regional Health is currently undertaken contact tracing in other camps of the company. According to the Health Directorate, “AFCON sub-contractor based at Aperguso – 20 (140 staff in all but only 20 are resident at the base) Samples have been taken for all contacts in residence at Camp B, C and Aperguso base. Daily follow up and review is on-going. More samples will be taken from the off-site staff. Contact listing of resident staff has begun.”
“A total of 70 samples were collected today. These include 5 clinically suspected Cases, 6 returnees, 36 from Camp C at Old Akrade in Asougyaman and 23 from Camp B who were re-tested. 34 samples were submitted to NMIMR. The remaining 36 shall be sent tomorrow. AFCON Camp A is at Afienya. The MHD for Shai Osodoku area has submitted about 250 samples from Camp A for testing awaiting results”
As of 10 April 2020, 11:00 hours, a total of 27,346 persons have been tested with 408 being positive for COVID-19. The breakdown of the 408 positive cases are as follows: four (4) have been treated, discharged and have tested negative, 394 cases have been categorized as mild disease on treatment, two (2) moderate to severe cases, none currently on ventilators and eight (8) have died.
