Bekwai Circuit Court presided by His Honour Mark Diboro has jailed a 38-year-old farmer, Prince Kwaku Kodua, to five years imprisonment for stealing eight(8 ) bags of cocoa beans from a cocoa purchasing clerk and sold same to her.
The facts of the case put before the court by the Prosecutor Detective Chief inspector Stephen Ofori are that the complainant, 60-year-old woman – Akosua Fremah who is a farmer and cocoa purchasing clerk, and the convict together with his wife Akosua Achiaa now at large all live in the same house at Kokodei community.
He said, some six months ago, Akosua Fremah the Cocoa purchasing clerk hired the convict to dry cocoa beans she purchased in stock for her.
However, a month ago, the complainant noticed a drastic decrease in the number of her cocoa beans.
The complainant took stock and noticed a total of eight (8) bags of cocoa beans worth Ghc5,280 have gone missing.
However, the convict denied knowledge when approached.
He was however caught when he sold two bags of Cocoa beans worth Ghc1,320 he stole from the cocoa shed to the complainant.
Further investigation revealed that the convict stole the missing cocoa beans and sold them to the complainant at her blind side under the guise that he was sent by other farmers.
The convict failed to produce a single farmer he sold the cocoa beans on his/her behalf during the period when she was challenged.
A complaint was lodged at the Police station by the cocoa purchasing clerk which led to the arrest of the convict who admitted the offense.
He was charged and put before the court where he pleaded guilty and sentenced accordingly.
